Bio: Shelly Power is a 40-year veteran of the arts. Currently, she is Academy Director for the Houston Ballet and as of September 2016, she will hold the position of Artistic Director/CEO of the prestigious Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland. Her success is attributed to her creative visionary practices with a unique ability to lead organizations into strategic thinking and implementation. In 2011, Texas Executive Women honored her as one of Ten Outstanding Women in Houston, she was also named one of Houston’s Fifty Influential Women in 2015 and awarded the 2016 Frazier Merriman Award for her significant impact on arts education in Houston. Driven by her passion for the arts Shelly has dedicated her career to developing programming that; exploits the strong values of dance training, prepares students for professional careers, makes dance accessible, and promotes self-care management for both the human body and human spirit. She attributes her programs successes to the magic of mentorship.
In 1997, Shelly received a Certificate of Advanced Training in Nonprofit Management from Case Western University and 2010, an Advanced Studies Certification from Rice Universities Leadership for Non Profit Executives, (LINE). She has worked in different capacities on behalf of several Houston nonprofits including Pink Ribbons Project, Sandra Organ Dance Company, Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, Hope Stone, Inc., and AFA.
